‘It’s frightening’: Alexander-Arnold makes excited claim about 16-year-old Liverpool prospect

Trent Alexander-Arnold is tipping Liverpool prospect Kaide Gordon for big things in the future.

Alexander-Arnold, 22, was the academy star breaking his way into the Reds first team a few years ago. The English defender has since won both the Champions League and Premier League to earn the status as one of the best right-backs around.

He believes the Merseyside club currently have a young talent who’s got “frightening” potential.

Gordon, who joined Liverpool from Derby County at the start of 2021, has been around the Reds senior group during pre-season.

The 16-year-old attacker made a first-team debut for Wayne Rooney’s Derby before moving up north. There is a lot of excitement around the young talent.

He starred in Liverpool’s Under-18s side at the back end of last season, but perhaps he’s being fast-tracked by Jurgen Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold has given an excited assessment of him.

“Kaide has so much potential; it’s frightening, really,” Alexander-Arnold told The Athletic.

“Kaide will be looking up to Mo (Mohamed Salah) and trying to pick bits from him because, on and off the pitch, Mo is an outstanding athlete and an outstanding person.”

Can Kaide Gordon make senior Liverpool debut this season?

Gordon is a youngster that has a lot of the Liverpool fanbase talking as they pray he can be a future star.

It’s going to be a tough ask for the goalscoring winger to break into the Reds first team due to the amount of quality at Anfield. Also, Harvey Elliott is another young talent currently trying to follow that path.

However, Klopp has proven he’ll play the youngsters if they are good enough.

Alexander-Arnold is the benchmark in recent years for academy talents looking upwards. In addition, 20-year-old midfielder Curtis Jones has made the step up to the first-team group in the last year.
