Report: AC Milan stance hands Leeds a boost in bid to sign De Ketelaere

Leeds United have received a potential boost in their bid to sign Charles De Ketelaere, with HLN in Belgium reporting that it is doubtful that AC Milan will be prepared to offer as much as the Whites could for the forward.

Leeds are facing some hefty competition for the 21-year-old. AC Milan won the Scudetto in Serie A last year. And obviously, with that, they can offer the forward Champions League football next year.

Fabrizio Romano suggested that Milan have made an opening bid of £17.2 million. Meanwhile, Leeds are offering £25.8 million plus add-ons for the Club Brugge star.

And it seems that the Rossoneri are not planning to get involved in a bidding war with the Whites. HLN reports that Milan have contacted Brugge about reducing the asking price.

Currently, his side want up to £34.4 million for De Ketelaere. And Milan view that as unrealistic. It is therefore, reportedly doubtful that they are going to go to extreme lengths to sign the forward.

Leeds boost in De Ketelaere bid

HLN’s report notes that Club Brugge are in two minds about selling De Ketelaere. They are considering whether now may be the best time to cash-in. But they would be very happy to keep him beyond this summer.

And with that, they have little intention of selling for below his asking price. That should play into Leeds’ hands when it comes to seeing off Milan’s interest.

Milan need to double their opening offer to meet Brugge’s demands. Even the lower end of their asking price – £30 million – is some way away right now.

Admittedly, Leeds also have some work to do. A fee made up of some add-ons may not appeal to the Belgian side when it comes to one of their star players.

And obviously, convincing De Ketelaere to move to Elland Road when Champions League football will be on offer elsewhere may not be easy.

But it would certainly appear that the Whites are much more likely to put an offer on the table that appeals to Club Brugge.
