Report: AC Milan already working to sign Bergwijn from Tottenham

AC Milan have already started working on a deal to sign Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur with the forward interested in a move to San Siro, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Bergwijn’s turbulent few months with Spurs continues. He was heavily linked with a move away during the January transfer window. But then, he scored twice in stoppage-time at Leicester.

And with that, it appeared that the Dutchman may be about to turn his fortunes around. Unfortunately, that has never quite happened in the weeks since.

Bergwijn has started one Premier League game since for Tottenham. And it now looks increasingly likely that a move in the summer is on the cards.

Reports claimed that Spurs are ready to sell the 24-year-old for just £15 million. And the Rossoneri are keen.

And Gazzetta has now provided a further update. They suggest that Milan are already working on a deal for Bergwijn, well aware that Fabio Paratici wants to move a number of players on this summer.

Bergwijn is interested in the switch after seeing his game-time restricted by the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski.

Summer is definitely the right time for Tottenham to sell Bergwijn

You can absolutely understand why Tottenham held onto Bergwijn beyond January. He clearly has quality. And that performance against Leicester had the potential to be a real turning point.

It would have been a strange move to sell him at that point. Antonio Conte described him as an ‘important‘ player after that game.

The time is now right for Tottenham to let Bergwijn leave. He has had fewer goal contributions than Kulusevski. And actually, he has been on the pitch for fewer minutes despite the Swede only joining in January.

Bergwijn may still have a role to play in Tottenham’s season. But whatever he does should not factor into Spurs’ decision on whether to sell him this summer.
