Report: Tottenham ready to accept just £15m for Bergwijn this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to accept a fee as low as £15 million for Steven Bergwijn this summer, according to a report from Calciomercato.

Bergwijn’s fascinating few months has taken another twist in recent times. For much of the January transfer window, it appeared that a move away from North London was inevitable.

However, he then scored those two stoppage-time goals away at Leicester to earn Antonio Conte’s side the three points. That appeared to have the potential to be a turning point for the Dutchman. Conte suggested afterwards that he viewed him as an ‘important‘ player.

Interestingly, reports claimed that Tottenham still expected Bergwijn to join Ajax before the January transfer window closed. At the time, Daniel Levy had dropped their asking price to £21 million.

Ultimately, the January window shut with Bergwijn still a Tottenham player. But he has remained closer to the periphery of Conte’s squad – and was an unused substitute at the weekend in the win against Manchester City.

So some may already be expecting the 24-year-old to move on this summer. And it would appear that Conte has made a decision on his future.

Calciomercato reports that AC Milan are very keen to sign Bergwijn. And Tottenham would now be ready to accept a fee as low as £15 million for him.

Tottenham made January mistake when Ajax came calling for Bergwijn

Obviously, Tottenham only strengthened their attacking options in January on the final day of the window when Dejan Kulusevski arrived. Without him, Bergwijn may well have featured more.

So perhaps it would be unfair to be critical of Tottenham not letting Bergwijn go in January. However, Spurs would have been aware for a little while that Kulusevski could possibly join.

Those reports on Ajax’s interest suggested that the Eredivisie giants had offered £18.3 million for Bergwijn in January.

So it may be a bit disappointing that Tottenham would already now be open to selling Bergwijn for just £15 million this summer.
