Report: 8-goal Arsenal-linked gem issues deadline to rival suitor, tempted by new offer
Arsenal striker target Amine Adli has set AC Milan a deadline to agree terms with Toulouse for his summer transfer, according to TuttoMercatoWEB.
Adli has an agreement to join Milan, but the Serie A outfit are yet to reach a deal with Toulouse. The forward has now given the Rossoneri a few more days to settle on the terms of his transfer before entertaining rival bids.
Marseille and Lille have shown a keen interest in the 21-year-old as he will enter the final year of his Toulouse contract next month. But it is the interest of Ligue 1 champions Lille that has tempted Adli to have a change of heart.
Lille are willing to give Adli a key role in their squad next season as Jonathan Ikone is expected to join Borussia Dortmund. A move to the Stade Pierre Mauroy would also allow the striker to grow in a setting with less pressure.
Milan want to sign Adli as they believe the Frenchman has characteristics that set him apart from their current options. Yet the San Siro hierarchy are only prepared to pay €8m (£7m), despite Toulouse wanting at least €10m (£8.5m).
Arsenal and Leicester City have also shown an interest recently, while Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have considered a move. But Toulouse President Damien Comolli has confirmed that no side has yet made a bid.
Comolli shared on Thursday, via the Toulouse Twitter, that he had discussed a new contract with Adli on 13 occasions. But the forward elected to decline the terms and will likely now leave Stadium TFC this summer.
Arsenal should open talks with Toulouse and Adli
Arsenal seem set to miss out on Adli with the striker tempted by Lille’s offer, despite his agreement with Milan. The chance to build in an environment he already knows well and in a low-pressure setting, it appears, was enough.
But TuttoMercatoWEB add that Lille and Toulouse are yet to speak, let alone agree on the terms of a transfer. Thus, Arsenal still have a chance to hold talks with the Tefece product and snap up a promising young centre-forward.
Adli was named Ligue 2 Player of the Year last season after scoring eight goals and seven assists. It was his first full campaign in the first-team, but his efforts helped Toulouse reach the play-off final, losing to Nantes on away goals.
Toulouse are now in a position where they must sell Adli this summer to avoid him leaving on a free. A situation Arsenal should look to capitalise on and not watch on as he develops at Milan or Lille.
