Report: Arsenal move to sign £8.5m gem, European giants have contract ready
According to TuttoMercatoWEB, Arsenal are interested in signing Amine Adli, but AC Milan have already agreed personal terms with the Toulouse forward.
The Gunners are among a clutch of clubs who have sounded out Adli’s situation in recent months. Leicester City, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille are all also keen on the 21-year-old gem.
However, AC Milan have moved to the front of the queue after reaching an agreement with Adli over personal terms. Technical Director Paolo Maldini and Sporting Director Frederic Massara now intend to negotiate a lower fee with Toulouse.
Adli has attracted interest from across Europe after being one of the stars of the Toulouse side last season. He was named Ligue 2’s Player of the Year after scoring eight goals and offering seven assists in 33 games.
Most of his goal involvements came from a central striker position but Adli is also a versatile forward. The left-footed former France U18 international can play across the frontline and even featured in central midfield last term.
Toulouse now hope to raise €10m (£8.5m) by selling Adli as the youngster is out of contract next year. Yet Milan are reluctant to reach Les Pitchouns’ asking price, and instead hope to spend around €8m (£7m).
TBR’s view: Arsenal given window to sign Adli
Milan’s reluctance to meet Toulouse’s asking price has given Arsenal a window to sign Adli this summer. But the forward already agreeing personal terms with the San Siro outfit will make a deal very challenging for Edu.
The Gunners’ Technical Director must convince Adli that he has greater opportunities at the Emirates than he would in Italy. But the forward is seemingly confident that a move to Milan is what is best for his career after six years at Toulouse.
It was only last season that he became an established starter at the Stadium TFC, too. Before that, Adli had struggled to break through in the French top-flight with just four Ligue 1 games ever played.
