Eurosport report that Michael Emenalo is confident he will be appointed by Newcastle as the club’s director of football, sooner rather than later.
Emenalo, 56, has been strongly linked with the vacant role at Newcastle since the new owners came in. He appears the most-likely contender.
Others include Luis Campos, Michael Edwards, Jason Wilcox and even Marc Overmars – who ended up rejecting the Toon despite staging initial talks.
Emenalo has been out of work since leaving Monaco in 2019. He made his name at Chelsea, working as sporting director between 2011 and 2017.
During that time as Chelsea’s transfer chief, he was responsible for bringing in the likes of Eden Hazard – but also revamped the club’s academy.
The ex-Nigeria international is now the front runner to take over at Newcastle. The new report states he is ‘confident’ of being offered the role.

Emenalo confident: Newcastle owners making a brilliant decision
He is a brilliant option. Even before he was being linked, Ian Wright stated Newcastle’s owners would be foolish if he was not under consideration.
Since his comments, Newcastle have staged talks and it now appears that Emenalo is the one the Toon will turn to ahead of the January window.
It is also believed that Emenalo is a big fan of Howe, and the two have actually met in the past. That relationship is going to be absolutely key.
But just going off his track record at Chelsea and Monaco, Emenalo would be a stunning option for the Toon – and January is no longer a worry.
