Tottenham Hotspur do want to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, but it’s looking unlikely that they will target Illan Meslier.
The Leeds United goalkeeper has been linked with a move for Spurs over the past 12 months, but it sounds as though the north London club are now going cold on the idea of bringing Meslier in.
Indeed, according to The Athletic, Spurs are now less keen to sign Meslier this summer.
Can you really blame them?

Meslier showed a lot of promise when he first arrived in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa. He was setting all sorts of records for being the youngest goalkeeper in the league’s history to reach a number of notable milestones, but in recent times, he seems to have lost his way.
He’s made a string of high-profile errors for Leeds, and he’s even lost his place in the team to Joel Robles now.
Described as ‘dreadful’ in recent times, Meslier’s drop in form has seen Spurs go cold on the idea of bringing him in as their replacement for Hugo Lloris.
Speaking of Lloris, Meslier’s hopes of becoming France’s number one will have taken a real hit too in recent weeks. At one point there was a real campaign for Meslier to get a senior international call-up, but with Mike Maignan and Alban Lafont performing so well at their respective clubs, it’s hard to see Meslier getting a sniff of international football now.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Meslier, if Leeds go down he’s likely to want to move on, but the reality is that he’s been playing like a Championship goalkeeper as of late, so perhaps he is destined for a season in the second-tier as teams like Tottenham go off the idea of signing the 23-year-old this summer.
