Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has been winning all of the fitness drills in training over the last month, according to Football.London.

The 22-year-old returned to the starting eleven yesterday for the first time since January. Despite the 2-1 loss to Newcastle United, Skipp looked impressive in midfield and was arguably one of Spurs’ better players on the day.

The youngster has been unlucky with injuries over the past 10 months, which has seen him fall down the pecking order at Spurs.

But he is seemingly the fittest player in Antonio Conte’s squad at the moment, even after missing a chunk of pre-season.

Football.London reports that Skipp has been leading the way in all of the fitness testing over the past four weeks at Tottenham.

The England U21 international played for just over an hour yesterday on his return to the side.

Skipp looked like a real bright spark for Conte’s side in the middle of the park as he came in to replace the injured Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

He put in an industrious display and moved the ball forward sharply, something Spurs’ other midfielders have seemingly struggled with this season.

Skipp had become a mainstay in Conte’s side before picking up an injury which ruled him out for the remainder of last season.

The midfielder was also in the top two fittest players in the entire Spurs squad during pre-season, according to Alasdair Gold. But he picked up another injury just before the season started, which has halted his progress in north London.

Conte will be hoping Skipp can avoid picking up any further injuries after what has been an unlucky period for the player.

Since being ruled out for the remainder of last season, Spurs have brought in Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma to bolster their midfield.

Skipp faces stiff competition for a place on Conte’s side but he certainly staked a claim for a place yesterday. And the youngster is clearly putting in the hard yards in training at Hotspur Way.
