‘Absolutely flying’: 21-year-old Spurs prospect was in the top two fittest players in pre-season - journalist
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has suffered another setback after being ruled out with a foot injury and journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed he was in the top two fittest players in the squad beforehand.
Skipp has missed the last two pre-season games and is now set to miss the opening two to three weeks of the Premier League season after suffering a ‘freak’ injury in training, reports Football.London.
The 21-year-old has only just come back from a long-term injury which ruled him out from February until the end of last season, but it looks like he’ll have to wait a bit longer before making a return to action.
And Alasdair Gold has revealed that the youngster was impressing the coaches at Spurs with his incredible fitness levels.
Skipp was in top two fittest players
“He got back and got really, really fit for pre-season and I’m told, the Spurs coaching staff had labelled him in the top two fittest in the squad,” he said.
“That’s where he was at in pre-season. He was absolutely flying, everyone was delighted with him and then just a freak incident. Jumping up for a header, then someone landing on him.”
After suffering the foot injury in training, Skipp’s Spurs teammates were reportedly left shaken up as he suffered a deep cut during the incident.
And Football.London reports that the Spurs youngster has suffered a hairline fracture on his heel in what is his latest injury setback.
Skipp will be gutted that he has just worked his way back from a long-term injury and has now suffered another injury, especially after becoming one of the fittest players in the squad.
But the English midfielder is clearly held in high regard by Conte and as his injury isn’t too serious, he will be back fighting for a place in the Italian’s team in just a few weeks.
