Report: £212k-a-week superstar wants to join Newcastle, talks ongoing
Goal claim that Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele wants to join Newcastle United next summer, when he becomes a free agent.
Dembele, 24, is expected to leave Barcelona next summer when his contract expires. The Nou Camp side are struggling financially, and need to sell.
Their high-earning fringe players will be the first ones they want to go. Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti and Neto will also be on that list.
Dembele is yet to play a single minute this season under Ronald Koeman – despite costing £124million in 2017. The Mail say he is on £212,000 a week.
Foot Mercato reported earlier this week that Newcastle had opened talks to sign Dembele on a free. They can arrange a pre-contract in January.
That is, if he remains out of contract in the summer. Talks are ongoing, with Newcastle ready to offer a five-year deal worth £244,000 a week.
Dembele wants Newcastle: Which players will go, to make room?
Dembele is a huge signing. Clearly, he will be on a par with Allan Saint-Maximin as the club’s best player. At his best, he surpasses the Toon hero.
But to sign a player like Dembele, means there will be one or two casualties out the back door. One would suggest the first would be Joelinton.
His £40million move to Newcastle has not gone as it should. He needs to go, even before Dembele joins, and Ryan Fraser might join him on the way out.
The Scotland ace has not rediscovered his best form and struggles to get into the side. If Newcastle sign Dembele, Fraser and Joelinton could go.
