Report: 21-year-old Arsenal player open talks over loan exit

Arsenal defender Daniel Ballard looks set to spend next season in the Championship, with Football London reporting that he is in talks with several sides about a loan move.

Ballard is back with the Gunners after a successful year with Blackpool. The 21-year-old helped the club secure promotion to the second tier.

The Northern Irishman would have been forgiven for being fairly realistic about his chances of making the grade at the Emirates.

Arsenal have a number of centre-back options. And Ballard is a player who turns 22 later this year.

However, he seemed to catch the supporters’ attention while away. For example, many were hugely impressed by his play-off final display at Wembley.

In fact, several suggested that he now needed a Championship loan in the hope that he can get closer to potentially forcing himself onto Mikel Arteta’s radar.

And it seems that those fans may be about to get their way.

According to Football London, Ballard is expected to spend next year in the Championship. Several sides, including Blackpool, are in talks about a loan move.

Championship loan could be game-changer for Ballard and his Arsenal hopes as talks continue

As well as Ballard played in League One, it was always going to be difficult to produce the kind of form that convinces those at Arsenal about his first-team credentials.

But that may be much easier in the Championship. If he can step his game up, the buzz around him will surely increase.

He has also impressed on international duty this past season. So he is ticking every box put in front of him so far.

It is going to be a crucial season for a number of players within Arteta’s squad. Several now need to prove that they are much better than what they have shown this past year.

Should they fail, some of the younger players will be more than knocking on the door.

And if Ballard has a good year in the Championship behind him, he could be the one leading the pack.
