Report: 19-year-old Liverpool prospect to join PL rivals after rejecting contract, £250k compensation
Liverpool prospect Remi Savage is reportedly set to sign for Premier League rivals Newcastle United after rejecting a new contract to stay.
According to the Athletic, the 19-year-old will pen a three-year contract at Newcastle.
It is understood he will move to Newcastle following the end of his current deal this summer on Merseyside.
The report says the defender was offered a one-year contract extension, but he’s rejected that to try make a quicker breakthrough into first-team football at St James’ Park. Liverpool will receive a £250,000-a-week compensation fee.
Savage has been with Liverpool since an Under-9s player. However, he’s now exiting this summer.
The Liverpool-born star played in the Under-23s Reds team this season. But, he’s yet to make his first-team debut.
Remi Savage deserves credit for ditching Liverpool to join Newcastle
Liverpool teenager Savage should be applauded for turning down a new deal from his boyhood club this summer.
It’s clear he feels his best chance of a senior breakthrough is away from Anfield, so he’s showing the ambition to try make it elsewhere.
The centre-back may have had a long wait to get an opportunity in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Meanwhile, Newcastle will hope they are snapping up a gem from their league rivals.
The Longstaff brothers are testament to the fact young players get a chance at St James Park. Also, the way Arsenal’s Joe Willock thrived at Newcastle during his loan should tempt players to the Toon.
