‘Reminds me of Calvert-Lewin’: Some fans amazed by Tottenham loanee’s display

Tottenham loanee Kion Etete made a memorable start to his season last night – and some Northampton Town fans on Twitter were left amazed by his performance.

Spurs decided this campaign to send the 19-year-old out on a season-long loan to League Two club Northampton. The Cobblers will be hoping to bounce straight back to League One after relegation last season.

Northampton beat Championship opposition Coventry City 2-1 on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup. They will face AFC Wimbledon in the next round.

Etete turned out to be the hero for his loan club on his debut for them.

Firstly, the teenage centre-forward netted a superb equaliser after knocking the ball over a defender and powerfully scoring a half-volley. He then netted a winner with a close-range finish.

As well as his goal, his all-round play made him a standout on the pitch.

He doesn’t turn 20 until November, but he’s an extremely physical presence at 6ft 6in that looks a star in the making.

Kion Etete in for a big season?

Spurs fans need to resist comparing Etete to Harry Kane because that’s needless pressure on him.

A selection of Northampton supporters on social media though are really excited about the Spurs loanee. One compared him to England and Everton frontman Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who had a loan spell at Sixfields Stadium earlier in his career.

It was a dream start for the striker at his new club, so surely a first league appearance for him will be imminent.

He’s taken his chance in the cup, but now it’s about building and improving because a few will be alerted to his midweek heroics against Coventry.
