Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has decided he will be staying at the club after all this winter.

The Danish midfielder has been persistently linked with a move away from Tottenham this month.

A number of clubs, including Newcastle and Lyon, are thought to have made some form of offer or registered an interest in signing Hojbjerg.

However, according to Florian Plettenberg, relaying comments from Hojbjerg’s lawyer, the Dane has decided to stay in north London and see out the season at the very least.

Taking to social media to share the comments, Plettenberg offered up the following quotes from Hojbjerg’s lawyer, Lars Halgreen.

“Despite rumours and noise the player always kept focus on helping the team, coaches and Tottenham. The player never asked to leave now. He’s very ambitious for Tottenham and Denmark. Continuing to keep improving himself, like he did all his career. He’s a strong character and player, his only focus is Tottenham to finish the season well and to help as much as possible. Pierre always liked challenges,” Plettenberg shared.

Good news for Tottenham

While this might mean Tottenham don’t go out and bring in a new midfielder before the deadline, it does mean that Spurs are also keeping a seasoned player in their squad.

Despite not being the number one choice in midfield under Ange Postecoglou, Hojbjerg has remained a trusted squad member and has played a key role in the main.

Right now, Tottenham are in the mix for the top four and not fully out of the title picture either.

Keeping Hojbjerg feels like a good moment for the team and gives them a professional player who is happy to do his bit and not sulk either.

So, for all the talk of the midfielder leaving the club, it seems like Hojbjerg is simply happy to stay and do his job. Deep down, Postecoglou will probably be delighted with the news.
