Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has emerged as a transfer target for Lyon, according to reports.

The Spurs enforcer has struggled for game time under Ange Postecoglou this season, so his future at N17 remains uncertain.

According to Footmercato, Lyon have now set their sights on Hojbjerg ahead of the January transfer window closing next week.

The Tottenham midfielder has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this term, but only seven of them have been starts.

Meanwhile, the seven-time French champions are currently fighting for survival in Ligue 1. They are 16th in the table, which is the relegation playoff place.

Lyon have bolstered their ranks with the signings of Gift Orban, Malick Fofana and Nemanja Matic this month, but they don’t seem to be done yet.

Hojbjerg is a target because of his quality, experience, tenaciousness and French-speaking skills, not to mention his desire to play regular football before Euro 2024.

Although Les Gones would have to spend considerably if they are to secure the Spurs man’s signature, it doesn’t seem like too unrealistic a signing for them.

Tottenham have some thinking to do about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg future

Hojbjerg’s future has been uncertain for a while now and, with just a few days before the January transfer window closes, Spurs need to decide what to do.

The logical decision would be to keep the £20million man until the end of the season.

With Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr still at the Africa Cup of Nations, it makes sense to maintain strength in depth.

However, Hojbjerg’s contract only runs until 2025, so if a big enough offer comes in, they’ll likely consider it as there’s always the risk they may not get one as high in the summer.
