'Really tempted by Arsenal': Romano claims 'superstar' winger keen on Gunners move

Arsenal have been linked with Wolves ace Pedro Neto in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, the Daily Express reported that the Gunners have a ‘long-standing interest’ in the 22-year-old.

And earlier this week, journalist Daniel Cutts reported that Arsenal have already held initial talks over a move.

The Gunners are ready to pay £35m, while Wolves are holding out for £50m, added Cutts.

However, The Athletic have claimed that Wolves are strongly saying Neto is not for sale.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the state of play involving Arsenal and the Portugal international.

“Pedro Neto is the main target as new winger,” Romano said on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast.

“I’m told that Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Pedro Neto. Edu is exploring this possibility since long time.”

Romano then claimed Arsenal have also sent scouts to watch Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino.

However, he reiterated that Neto is the Gunners’ main target, though he stressed it won’t be easy for them.

“It’s not an easy negotiation because Wolves want more than £50m,” continued Romano.

“Let’s see after the outgoings what happens.

“One quick thing I forgot – Neto would be really tempted by Arsenal.

“I’m told that the player is another factor in this story.

“He’s not forcing anything but he would be really keen.”

“Always on the front foot”

Neto would be a superb signing for Arsenal given his talent, attitude, and potential.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry praised the Portuguese talent in March last year.

“I like him a lot,” Henry said on Sky Sports, via the Birmingham Mail, during the Wolves v Liverpool match coverage.

“Especially the situation that he found himself in with (Raul) Jimenez being injured and Diogo Jota now playing for the other side tonight.

“It’s not easy to have everything on your shoulders. What I like is he’s not scared to beat people on the outside. I like it, he can cross with his right, finish with his left.

“He’s always looking to have a go and attack the defender – always on the front foot.

“It’s not easy to do this at such a young age, in a team where you’re not often in possession and dominating games. I think he’s performed extremely well.”

Jamie Redknapp has called Neto “sensational“, while Jamie Carragher has backed him to become “a real superstar“.
