‘Really like him’: TalkSPORT pundit says he would choose £13m Newcastle United man over Tottenham’s Ivan Perisic

Newcastle United are a club on a mission right now, playing some brilliant football and climbing up the table.

They make the trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, hoping to close the gap between them and the top four.

Speaking on TalkSPORT’s YouTube channel, Jamie O’Hara was asked about the two squads.

Both clubs made significant investments in the summer, and have seen some of their new signings flourish.

Newcastle currently have the best defensive record in the league, in large parts down to the introduction of the pair.

At Spurs, Conte has put his faith in Ivan Perisic to create plenty of chances of the left flank.

However, O’Hara admitted he would pick Newcastle defender Dan Burn over Perisic if given the choice between the two.

Burn is also relatively new to Newcastle, having only arrived in January from Brighton for £13m.

He’s made a big impact on Tyneside since arriving, and has been one of the first names on Howe’s team sheet.

O’Hara picks Burn over Perisic

The TalkSPORT pundit was going through each squad deciding which players he would prefer.

When it reached the left-backs, O’Hara said: “Dan Burn.

“I really like him, I played with Dan Burn at Fulham. He can play in a back three, he can play left-back, he can play wing-back.”

O’Hara highlights Burn’s versatility as one of the reasons he’s picked him.

However, this is harsh on Perisic, who has played on both flanks under Conte this season.

Before their match against Manchester United, Conte even suggested he might play Perisic as one of a front three.

Perisic certainly offers more going forward than Burn, but may not be as solid defensively.

Neil Warnock has even called on Gareth Southgate to consider selecting Burn for the World Cup.

O’Hara picking Burn over Perisic may be a case of him showing some loyalty to a former teammate.

But plenty of Newcastle fans would agree that the man keeping regular left-back Matt Targett out of side deserves more recognition.
