'Really good': Antonio Conte names the three Tottenham players who've impressed him during training recently

Tottenham Hotspur fans only have a few days left to wait until they see their side back in competitive action.

Manager Antonio Conte has spoken to SPURSPLAY about his squad’s preparations during the World Cup.

Conte was without 11 first-team players as they travelled to Qatar last month.

They had varying levels of success, with Cristian Romero eventually bringing home a winner’s medal.

The Argentinian centre-back is now back is his home country celebrating after a dramatic final.

Spurs have a final warm-up game lined up against Nice tonight, with some World Cup stars likely to feature.

Conte will also like choose those players who have impressed in training over the past few weeks.

Tottenham chose not to go abroad like many Premier League teams while the World Cup was going on.

Instead, they faced Motherwell and Peterborough United in behind-closed-doors friendlies.

With some of his most important players likely to still be recovering from events in Qatar, Conte’s fringe players have had a chance to step up.

Conte impressed with three Tottenham players in training

Speaking to the club’s official website about his time with the remainder of Tottenham’s squad during the World Cup, Conte said: “I think that we exploit very well this period, especially for players like Skippy, Bissouma and for Matt Doherty.

“Also, for players that start to work with us later and I think we did a really good job with these players.

“I think we work very well to improve physical condition and also with the tactical aspect with these players.”

Doherty has a fantastic chance to establish himself in Conte’s first-team.

Emerson Royal has failed to make the right wing-back spot his own this season.

Doherty impressed Kulusevski with his performance against Motherwell, and the Swede is a big fan of working with him on the right flank.

Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma have a tough task trying to break into the first team.

Conte being happy with their performances in training in one thing, but displacing Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is another.

Another central midfielder, Pape Matar Sarr, looks set to start tonight.

It probably means that one of those two midfielders, despite catching Conte’s eye, may have to settle for a spot on the bench.
