‘Incredible’: Dejan Kulusevski left amazed by £15m Tottenham player’s display yesterday
Dejan Kulusevski was left amazed by Tottenham Hotspur full-back Matt Doherty’s display in yesterday’s friendly against Motherwell.
Spurs are readying themselves for the return of the Premier League later this month and beat the Scottish outfit 4-0 in a behind closed doors friendly yesterday.
Kulusevski opened the scoring for Antonio Conte’s men and looked like a real bright spark throughout. Bryan Gil also got amongst the goals but it was Doherty who surprisingly grabbed a brace from left wing-back yesterday.
The £15 million man produced an excellent finish in the first-half and then Kulusevski set him up for his second as he headed home in the 71st minute.
And the Swedish winger admitted to Tottenham’s official website that Doherty was ‘incredible’ yesterday.
Kulusevski left amazed by Doherty
Speaking to Spurs Play, Kulusevski was asked about Doherty’s brace and all-round display against Motherwell.
“He’s so good, it’s incredible,” he responded.
“I took the corner and said ‘go inside I’ll find you’. That’s what happened.”
It was a positive performance from Spurs yesterday and the break will give players like Doherty a chance to get back to full fitness.
The Irishman was brilliant for a brief spell last season but his progress was halted by a knee injury he suffered against Aston Villa.
The injury ruled him out for the remainder of last season and he has struggled to rediscover his promising form.
Doherty will be hoping he can benefit from the World Cup break and get some more minutes under his belt in Spurs’ next friendly against Nice.
The 30-year-old will be competing with Emerson Royal for the right wing-back position, while Djed Spence also put in an encouraging display yesterday.
