Real Madrid’s Summer Transfer Targets

Real Madrid’s Summer Transfer Targets

With Real Madrid unlikely to retain their Spanish league title this season, the reigning La Liga champions must recruit some reinforcements this summer.

Los Blancos have lacked the finishing and attacking flair, with the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo, that made them La Liga champions last season with key players like Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Angel di Maria failing to perform.

Their defence has also appeared shaky at times with Real Madrid conceding first in most of their league matches.

Here’s a look at the players the club may target as they look to dethrone Barcelona of their forecasted La Liga title next season.

Daniel Carvajal

Bayer Leverkusen full-back Daniel Carvajal has refused to rule out the possibility of returning to Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old is a product of the famed academy system at Santiago Bernabeu.

He was a regular for their B team throughout his time in the Spanish capital, but took the decision to head for Germany last summer.

Carvajal has impressed during his short time in the Bundesliga and speculation has suggested that he could soon be heading home.

Gareth Bale

Madrid are ready, willing and able to offer as much as £60m to win the race to sign Tottenham winger Gareth Bale according to Zinedine Zidane.

The Daily Mail quotes the former French international, who is the Bernabeu side’s Director of Football, as stating;

‘After the season he has just had – and still being so young of course Gareth Bale is going to be one of the most expensive players in the world if he decides to move.

‘Tottenham could command £40million, £50m, maybe even £60m for him. It is a lot of money – but there are maybe three or four teams in the world that can pay that sort of transfer fee – and it won’t put them off.

Marco Verratti

Verratti has emerged as a transfer target for Los Blancos, as they want to wrestle the La Liga title back from bitter rivals Barcelona.

French paper Le 10 Sport claims PSG are desperate to hold onto Verratti.

But Real are keen on the midfielder who has clocked up 29 appearances for the French side this season.

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero is a player Real wanted to sign years back when he was at Atletico Madrid. However the relationship between the rival clubs made a transfer impossible and he ended up at City instead.

Aguero has 13 goals and two assists this season having been hampered by injury. Having spent two years in Manchester, he remains the clubs most effective striker.

The Spanish giants are interested in bringing the striker back to Spain – and they could offer up to £40million for the Manchester City man’s signature.

Geoffrey Kondogbia

Geoffrey Kondogbia has admitted joining Real Madrid would be a dream move if he were to leave Sevilla this summer.

The midfielder has played 26 games in La Liga this season, scoring one goal.

Kondogbia, who joined Sevilla from Lens last year, has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, but Arsenal and Real are believed to be favourites to win the race to sign the highly-rated 20-year-old, should he be on the move when the transfer window reopens.

Kyle Walker

In their hunt for new full-backs, Real Madrid are reportedly targeting Tottenham defender Kyle Walker.

Walker is at the top of the clubs list to replace former Liverpool full-back Alvaro Arbeloa.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is likely to want at least £15million for the defender who only penned a new five year deal at White Hart Lane less than 12 months ago.

Real have had scouts at the majority of Spurs games this season watching Bale, but he is likely to shun a move this summer making Walker the more likely candidate for a summer move.
