Report: Real Madrid now want to sign £140k-a-week Liverpool player currently at the World Cup

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is among a cluster of strikers being watched by Real Madrid over in Qatar as the Spanish side seek a Karim Benzema replacement.

According to Defensa Central, Nunez is being considered by Madrid as they consider long-term options to fill the void due to be left by Benzema. The French striker himself has missed the World Cup after picking up an injury before the tournament started.

Nunez, meanwhile, is facing a potential exit himself. He plays for Uruguay later today against Ghana. The South Americans need a win to ensure they go into the next round. Nunez is expected to start up front in what could be a tense affair thanks to the Luis Suarez history.

Of course, any chance of Liverpool selling Nunez seems slim. The Reds only invested a huge amount in the young striker earlier in the summer. Since then, the striker has shown glimpses of his quality in a Liverpool shirt. Indeed, Garth Crooks included him in his team of the week before the World Cup started, lauding Nunez as top class and a ‘nightmare’ for defender.

Nunez, who cost Liverpool more than £80m, is said to be on around £140k-a-week at Anfield.

TBR’s View: Liverpool needn’t worry about Nunez to Real Madrid

There’s just no way Liverpool will sell, will they? If they did, then it would be a truly bizarre piece of business by the Reds.

We all know Real Madrid hold a lure few clubs have. But Nunez seems happy in Liverpool and with Jurgen Klopp guiding him, there are high hopes for the future.

Naturally, if a bid of over £100m came in then Liverpool might look at it. But Madrid are often linked with countless players and the Reds board will likely take this with a pinch of salt. For now, Nunez is Liverpool’s future and him leaving seems extremely unlikely.
