'Top-class': BBC pundit says Liverpool have a player on their hands who's a 'nightmare' for the opposition

Darwin Nunez has been selected by Garth Crooks in his latest team of the week after scoring two goals for Liverpool this weekend.

The Uruguayan burst into life inside the opening 45 minutes as he struck twice in 20 minutes to essentially put the game to bed. For Nunez, it was a huge confidence boost. Liverpool fans have been waiting to see the best of him and he looked good against Southampton.

And including Nunez in his latest team of the week, Crooks believes Nunez’s desire to score goals is a ‘nightmare’ for Premier League defences.

“The young Darwin Nunez is starting to find his rhythm at Anfield and, as a consequence, the goals are beginning to come naturally as he doesn’t seem to be trying so hard to impress any more,” Crooks wrote.

“The 23-year-old Uruguay international undoubtedly has all the elements to become a top-class striker and might one day even fill the role left by Sadio Mane – although that is a big ask. Southampton did have a go, but didn’t have the class or firepower to really trouble the former European champions. Nunez, on the other hand, desperately wants to get on the end of things which is a nightmare for any defence.”

TBR’s View: Nunez goals can help Liverpool to success

Darwin Nunez was signed by Liverpool to score goals and help fill the massive void left by Sadio Mane. So far, on the whole, he’s looking a shrewd enough signing.

The work-rate has been there since day one and now we are seeing the goals and assists come too. Nunez does, as Crooks says, love to attack the ball and he’ll get his rewards for doing so.

Overall, Liverpool fans will be happy with Nunez so far and if he can come back from Qatar in good form, then the top four could be back on for the Reds.
