Report: Real Madrid open door for Arsenal by saying no to 'phenomenal' forward Arteta has scouted
Arsenal’s search for a new forward might have been given a little boost today, with Real Madrid apparently turning down the chance to sign Marcus Thuram.
Thuram is one of the strikers on the radar of Arsenal as they seek to deal with the loss of Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian’s untimely injury is going to keep him out for a few months. And with that in mind, the Gunners are minded to act in the January window.
Just a few weeks ago, 90Min claimed that Arsenal had sent their scouts to watch Thuram in action for Borussia Monchengladbach. It’s claimed Thuram is a wanted man and come January, he will be on his way.
However, in a good turn of events for the Gunners, Spanish outlet Defensa Central is reporting that Real Madrid have said no to signing Thuram. Defensa reports how Thuram is among five players offered to Madrid in recent weeks. But with bigger fish to fry – such as Jude Bellingham – Los Blancos are said to have rejected the opportunity.
That move could, then, leave the door open for Arsenal. Lauded as ‘phenomenal‘ by now Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria, Thuram could go in January for as little as £8m.
TBR’s View: Thuram a risky but cheap option for Arsenal
The risk for Arsenal in going to Marcus Thuram is that he’s not quite done it at the very best level yet. Sure, he’s been on fire this season with 13 goals already in 17 games. And in that sense, he might come in and hit the ground running.
However, you only have to go back to last season and look at Thuram’s record. He scored three times and that will go into the thinking of a club like Arsenal. That sort of record is poor, especially in a league considered inferior to the PL.
So, while Thuram is a cheap option for the Gunners, he also comes with risk.
