‘Real concern’: Antonio Conte is worried about injury news, it could force Tottenham to move for attacker – journalist

Sky Sports journalist Paul Gilmour says Tottenham Hotspur could be forced to move for an attacker as Antonio Conte is worried about the latest injury news.

Conte told Football.London yesterday that Moura is currently sidelined due to an injury in his tendon but he hopes to have the 30-year-old back as soon as possible.

The Brazilian is an important squad player for the Italian and Spurs could suddenly look a bit light in the attacking department if he is ruled out for a long period of time.

And with Bryan Gil also reportedly closing in on a return to Valencia, Spurs could now be forced to go into the market for an attacking player.

Spurs could move for attacker

Paul Gilmour has told the Last Word on Spurs podcast that Moura’s injury could now force Spurs to make a late summer signing.

The Sky journalist said he expects the club to sign a replacement for Gil, if the Spaniard leaves.

But they could now go into the market whether the youngster leaves or not, due to fears over Moura’s fitness.

“The more likely one is Bryan Gil [to leave], simply because of his World Cup ambitions and wanting to play regular football,” Gilmour said.

“Something he’s not really going to get at Tottenham, he’s going to be one of those squad players. He’s certainly going to be behind [Harry] Kane, [Heung-Min] Son, [Dejan] Kulusevski, Lucas Moura and he’s somebody who will play a part.

“He’s been on the bench twice in the first four games, so he will be somebody who comes into the squad and will get game time in certain matches, especially with the games coming thick and fast.

“But I think his preference would be to get away and so those talks with Valencia are ongoing. If he goes, I’d expect to see a versatile attacking player come in in his place.

“The other unknown in all of this and what we don’t know yet having spoken to Antonio Conte today [yesterday]. I got the feeling that there’s a real concern around Lucas Moura and this injury, the inflammation around the tendon that he has and that can be a really awkward injury and it can keep people out for lengthy periods.

“So, if that ends up being more serious than initially feared, I wouldn’t rule out necessarily going into the market anyway to bring in that attacking player to come in and provide extra cover if Lucas Moura’s injury is more serious.

“I think that’s why there are so many fluid situations.”

Spurs have certainly got a wealth of attacking options at the moment but if Gil leaves and Lucas is sidelined for a long period of time, Conte would be left seriously short.

The Italian would only have Richarlison as an alternative option to Kane, Son and Kulusevski.

It may be that Spurs will be forced to make a late move before the window closes on Thursday night.
