‘Closing on final details’: Fabrizio Romano has transfer update for Tottenham fans

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil.

The Spurs gem has struggled to break into Antonio Conte’s side since making the switch from Sevilla last summer.

In January, Tottenham loaned Gil to Valencia, where he quickly became a fan favourite.

Back in May, there were reports suggesting Spurs were open to selling him.

Then, earlier this month, it looked as though Conte had changed his mind.

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs told Last Word on Spurs: “I know that Conte has been really, really impressed by the player.”

Antonio Conte himself then suggested he had Gil in his thoughts this season.

“Gil went on loan but now he’s in the squad of 20 players,” he told football.london.

But while Conte may rate Gil highly, he appears keen for him to get more first-team experience elsewhere.

Romano has now taken to Twitter to claim that Tottenham and Valencia are closing on the final details for a loan move.

However, this will only be a simple loan, without any options or obligations to buy, added Romano.

Gil is an incredibly talented player who has shown glimpses of quality while playing for Tottenham.

But while he has made the last three matchday squads, he remained an unused substitute.

Conte might not be able to give Gil regular game time, so perhaps a loan move is the best solution now.

After all, a lack of option / obligation to buy suggests the Spurs boss sees Gil as a good prospect in the long term.
