Raphinha and Bukayo Saka send messages to Leeds star on Instagram
Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips delivered a superb England display on Tuesday at Euro 2020, which resulted in him receiving a wave of messages on Instagram from his peers.
Phillips, 25, was part of an England team that created a small piece of history in their win over Germany.
The Three Lions beat Germany at Wembley Stadium 2-0 in the Euros Round of 16. However, it will be brushed under the carpet quickly if there is disappointment in the next stages of the tournament.
Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane scored for England, who travel to Rome to face Ukraine in the quarter-finals.
Phillips was included in Gareth Southgate’s XI against Germany, so it’s a sign of how much he trusts him.
England teammates Bukayo Saka, along with midfield partner Declan Rice, sent messages to the Leeds ace on Instagram.
In addition, club teammate Raphinha, as well as Leeds-supporting pundit Jermaine Beckford, also messaged.
Latest England display should keep Phillips in XI against Ukraine
Leeds fans won’t want to entertain the idea, but if they were to sell Phillips they could make a fortune.
He’s been an all-action central midfielder in an England shirt this summer.
Leeds fans are used to watching him as a deep-lying playmaker at the base of midfield, but he’s shown his all-round game is just as strong by partnering Rice in the middle.
There may be temptation to drop one of the central midfielders for a more attacking option against Ukraine, but it’s difficult to see Southgate leaving out Phillips or Rice.
A change of formation from five at the back to four at the back could accommodate an extra forward.
