Rangers transfer news: Romano says Cantwell to Ibrox is 'done'
Glasgow Rangers are closing in on bringing Todd Cantwell to Ibrox, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer insider took to Twitter on Thursday evening to say Cantwell to Rangers is “done”.
An agreement is in place on “all the details”, with Rangers boss Michael Beale set to make his first Ibrox signing.
Romano added that Cantwell will undergo his medical with Rangers and sign the Ibrox contract in the next 48 hours if all goes to plan.
The latter reported that Cantwell had been saying his goodbyes to his Norwich teammates in the morning.
Rangers have won the race for the 24-year-old ahead of several English Championship teams, they reported.
Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven were also apparently in pursuit of the former England Under-21 international.
Cantwell’s Canaries contract expires at the end of this season.
‘He’s just a wonderful player’
The midfielder was deemed one of the top rising talents in English football several years ago.
In November 2019, Alan Shearer said Cantwell’s performance against Everton “had everything”.
Norwich legend Dean Ashton, meanwhile, said in 2021: “He was incredible (when I first saw him).
“The way he was drifting past players. His speed of thought and his awareness. He’s just a wonderful player.”
However, Cantwell has been struggling for game time of late.
New head coach David Wagner said the player wouldn’t be in his plans, leaving the door open for Rangers to swoop.
Rangers have got themselves an exciting player who’ll no doubt make a positive impact at Ibrox.
