Aston Villa are in pole position to sign Northampton Town striker Caleb Chukwuemeka, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Mail suggests that the teenager is looking set to leave the League One club this summer. It is claimed that he has rejected a first professional contract with the Cobblers.

And their hopes of keeping Chukwuemeka have seemingly not been helped by the levels of interest in him.

The Daily Mail claims that the Villans are leading the race. Meanwhile, it is stated that both Norwich City and Club Brugge – from whom, Villa signed striker Wesley last summer – are also keen on the forward.

Villa also have his brother Carney on their books. So that will surely work in their favour as they look to convince the youngster to make a switch.

The Villans have a number of exciting young players coming through. And in Dean Smith, the club have a manager not afraid to hand youngsters a chance.

Of course, Chukwuemeka is likely to be some way off being ready for Premier League game-time. He is yet to make his senior debut for Northampton.

But the 18-year-old – who was born a few days after Darius Vassell and Juan Pablo Angel helped Villa to a 2-1 win at Charlton Athletic in 2002 – can certainly see that the pathway is there for him should he impress.
