Rangers player gets Instagram praise from Tony Watt and Steven Davis
Big things are expected of Scott Wright. Joining Rangers from Aberdeen after a decent spell with the Dons, many questioned if he was good enough for Steven Gerrard’s side. But after his goal on Saturday, that feeling has changed. Steven Davis and Tony Watt applauded his effort on Instagram.
Clocking up 79 appearances for Aberdeen, Scotland Under-21 star Wright only scored seven goals. But he did enough to convince Gerrard and his scouting team to bring him to Ibrox. A subtle start saw him score once in 13 games, but he was just finding his feet. In pre-season, he was excellent.
It might have been slightly harsh to leave him on the bench for the 3-0 win over Livingston on Saturday. But he came on in the first half, replacing Ianis Hagi after a brutal tackle from Adam Lewis. Wright got the second with a gorgeous curling effort and posted on Instagram after the match.
Should Wright start for Rangers against Malmo?
It is an enormous game for Rangers and Gerrard has got to get his selection bang on. While Rangers are expected to win against the Swedish outfit, it is still a tricky game and nerves will be high. Rangers need to be professional and see the game out. Ryan Kent obviously starts on one wing.
Whether Fashion Sakala remains up top, is another question. Kemar Roofe came off the bench to score, while Cedric Itten has been excellent in pre-season. If Hagi is unavailable, Wright is the best choice. Plenty responded to Wright on Instagram, including Rangers teammate Davis and Watt.
Ex-Celtic ace Watt – now at Motherwell – gave his five-word verdict on Wright and his goal for Rangers.
