Rangers and Celtic suffer £4m transfer blow, as report claims striker in talks with current club over new deal

The Record say Hibernian have opened talks with Kevin Nisbet over signing a new contract, amid reports Rangers and Celtic are keen on the striker.

Nisbet, 24, was excellent for Hibs last season – scoring 18 goals in 44 games for the Easter Road side. He has continued that form, with two more.

That is, despite being used out wide or up top. His form earned him a place in Scotland’s Euro 2020 side, and the attacker now has six Scotland caps.

The Mail have previously claimed that Hibs want as much as £4million for Nisbet. Simon Donnelly has suggested Celtic should consider a move.

But a new report from The Record claims that Hibs have opened talks with their striker – after The Record said Celtic and Rangers were admirers.

Nisbet contract: Do Rangers and Celtic need to make their move?

While Nisbet is a brilliant player and could well be worth as much as £4million for either Old Firm side – right now, is not the right time.

At Celtic, they have numerous options in the final third. The additions of Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada have been excellent.

Meanwhile, Odsonne Edouard has stayed at the club and looks to be enjoying his football again. Nisbet is not needed at Parkhead.

Similarly, Alfredo Morelos is shining at Rangers and they still boast the likes of Kemar Roofe, Scott Wright, Ianis Hagi, Cedric Itten and Fashion Sakala.

So, while Nisbet is a good buy at £4million and might improve either Glasgow side – they simply do not need him at the moment.
