Rangers and Celtic transfer: SPL talisman linked with Old Firm rivals
Rangers and Celtic have both been named in a report which discusses the future of striker Kevin Nisbet. According to the Daily Record, both Old Firm rivals are admirers of the player.
Nisbet is wanted by several clubs this summer. He even has overseas interest from Spartak Moscow and Krasnodar. Celtic and Rangers could provide attractive propositions, however.
The 24-year-old was in the form of his life last season. He scored 18 goals and claimed eight assists for Hibernian and earned himself a place in the Scotland squad for Euro 2020.
Nisbet was a late substitute in all three of Scotland’s games at the tournament. He does look like being a future starter under Steve Clarke, however.
Signing the talisman won’t come cheap. Birmingham saw a £2 million bid rejected for the player in January, with the valuation likely to be around double that amount.
Nisbet has been recommended to new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, whilst Steven Gerrard is also thought to be a big fan.
It does suggest in the latest claims, however, that no concrete decision has been made by Celtic. The new Hoops boss is yet to signal his intent and could assess his current options first.
Gerrard likes Nisbet, but he’s unlikely to move for him unless he can offload one of his own strikers. Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a move this summer and that might tempt Rangers to move for Nisbet.
Nisbet would be ideal for Celtic or Rangers
The Old Firm rivals should in theory have a genuine shot of signing the best players in the Scottish Premiership.
Nisbet certainly fits that criteria and he’d be a strong signing for both Glasgow-based clubs.
At 24 he would retain some serious sell-on value and with chances likely to be free-flowing at Ibrox of Parkhead, he could continue scoring at an even better rate.
A move might be some way off just yet, but you can bet that Rangers or Celtic would benefit from having Nisbet in their ranks.
