Rangers and Celtic blow as report makes Barry Douglas claim
Douglas is closing in on becoming a free agent. The left-back will leave Leeds United later this month having spent the majority of this past campaign out on loan.
Douglas endured a tough spell at Elland Road. But it is no surprise to see a queue of clubs quickly forming.
The Lancashire Telegraph recently reported that both Rangers and Celtic want Douglas.
But the Gers and Hoops may have work to do if they hope to land Douglas.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Bristol City lead the race for the defender. It is noted that he would love to remain in the Championship.
All hope is not lost for the Old Firm just yet. The Mirror does note that he would prefer to stay in the UK amid interest from Turkey and the USA.
Barry Douglas stance may be bigger blow for Celtic than Rangers
Of the two sides, Celtic arguably need Douglas more than Steven Gerrard’s side.
Borna Barisic has been an outstanding performer for the Gers in the last couple of years.
Greg Taylor meanwhile, still appears to have work to do to silence all of his doubters at Parkhead.
So Ange Postecoglou’s men may feel a little more disappointed if Douglas does not return to Scotland this summer.
He is a player with exceptional quality with the ball at his feet. He provided 14 assists in the Championship in the year Wolves won the title at a canter.
On a free transfer, he could prove to be an inspired addition for either Rangers or Celtic.
So it will be interesting to see if the reports claiming Bristol City lead the race prompts either club to step up their interest.
