‘Ran the show’… BBC pundit says one Arsenal star made Burnley’s lives absolutely miserable on Saturday

Martin Odegaard has been lauded for running the show as Arsenal thrashed Burnley on Saturday, with the Gunners skipper apparently making life miserable for the Clarets at Turf Moor.

Arsenal made another statement in the Premier League title race at the weekend. The pressure was, once again, on with Liverpool winning earlier in the day.

But the Gunners followed their 6-0 win over West Ham by putting five past Burnley at Turf Moor. And it was Martin Odegaard who opened the scoring in the first few minutes.

The Norwegian also provided an assist. He has now four goal involvements in the last two appearances. And it seems that he is finding his best form again.

Odegaard has been labelled the perfect player after the win. And speaking to BBC Sport, Garth Crooks suggested that he was the best on the pitch against Vincent Kompany’s side as he included him in his team of the week.

“What did Burnley expect when they gave the Arsenal captain enough space and time to put the ball precisely where he wanted to? What they deserved, that’s what,” he said.

“Martin Odegaard must have thought it was his birthday after four minutes of this fixture. He had been given enough room to drive a coach and horses through. He took his chance, and Arsenal were on their way to a 5-0 victory at Turf Moor.

“Do the Burnley players not realise that they are fighting for their Premier League lives? If they don’t have the presence of mind to close down one of the best teams in the country, who have one eye on the title, then its hardly surprising they get taken apart.

“Odegaard went on to make Burnley’s life even more miserable with a lovely assist for Bukayo Saka’s second goal and generally ran the show.”

Gunners finding another gear at the perfect time

Odegaard appears to be finding his best form at the right time for Arsenal. It has not always been the easiest campaign for the 25-year-old. Like many others, he was quiet early on and appeared to be struggling to rediscover his magic form from last year.

But he appears to have found another gear in the last few games. And worryingly for Arsenal’s rivals, so do a number of his teammates.

Arsenal are into their groove now. And it is going to take a lot to stop them after they scored 11 goals in their last two games.
