Adrian Clarke has suggested that one Arsenal star may actually be the perfect player after the Gunners’ 5-0 win over Burnley at the weekend.
Mikel Arteta’s men made a real statement to close the gap to Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table to just two points.
It was Martin Odegaard who gave Arsenal the lead inside the opening four minutes at Turf Moor. The Norwegian has had some critics this season. But, like many others around him, Odegaard appears to be hitting a real purple patch of form.
Martin Odegaard lauded after Arsenal win
Odegaard is going to need to produce something special to match his tally of goals and assists from last season. He is actually one assist away from equalling his record last year. But he is currently 10 goals adrift.

Nevertheless, he has scored one and set up three in the last two games. And speaking on Handbrake Off, Adrian Clarke suggested that he has just been amazed by how good Odegaard is becoming.
“What a signing this guy is! I mean he is the perfect player in terms of what he gives you without the ball, what he gives you with the leadership and then obviously the quality on the ball,” he said.
“No one has made more chances from open play than Martin in the Premier League this season.
“He’s made five more through balls than any other player in the Premier League this season.
“And I think in terms of chances created, he’s only ten off of what he achieved in the entirety of last season.
“He’s effectively three of four games [off beating that record]. So, he is on fire, he is flames at the minute.”
Gunners captain may not even be at his peak
What is frightening is that Odegaard only turned 25 in December. There is a very real chance that he is still a couple of years away from his peak.
He definitely looks like a real captain. Few will forget his performance at Newcastle at a crucial time last season. And he has been one to really step up in the last few games.
There is an argument that Odegaard is one of the most well-rounded players in the Premier League, as Clarke suggests.
And his reward may perhaps be getting his hands on the league title in just a few months.
