Newcastle confident of leading race for 'astonishing' £55m Tottenham attacking target - journalist

Newcastle United will hope to be “ahead of anyone else” to sign reported Tottenham Hotspur target Moussa Diaby next year.

This is according to GiveMeSport‘s Dean Jones, who spoke of the “hard yards” already put in by the Magpies.

Newcastle were linked with Diaby during the summer transfer window, while Spurs reportedly sent scouts to watch him this month.

90Min claimed that Tottenham had scouts in attendance to watch Diaby for Leverkusen as they beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

In summer, Leverkusen were reportedly demanding £55million for the winger, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Diaby himself put reports of a transfer to bed in July when he confirmed he’d be playing at the BayArena this season.

As well as Newcastle and Tottenham, Arsenal have been linked with Diaby.

Jones, writing on GiveMeSport, understands that Newcastle will face competition in their efforts to sign the winger in future transfer windows.

However, the journalist believes that the groundwork put in by the Magpies in the summer will leave them confident of winning the race ahead of the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “There will undoubtedly be competition for Diaby, he is brilliant.

“Newcastle have put in the hard yards already though.

“So they will hope that if they want to pick up again on that transfer, they would be ahead of anyone else.”

Can Newcastle or Spurs land ‘Havertz/Salah hybrid’?

It’s not surprising that the likes of Newcastle, Tottenham and Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Diaby.

Likewise, it’s to be expected that Leverkusen want big money for the 23-year-old France international

Nonetheless, Diaby really does seem worth it.

The ‘astonishing‘ winger has been delivering for his club and is now on eight Bleus caps.

Many fans on social media have loved what they’ve seen from him.

One deemed him ‘the next Mane‘, one called him ‘a faster version of Saka‘ and another described him as a ‘Havertz / Salah hybrid’.
