Herculez Gomez has told ESPN that he is not sure Yunus Musah would be able to say no to Arsenal if they made a move for the midfielder, but warned that he may not be ready for such a stage right now.
Musah was a revelation at this World Cup with the USMNT. The 20-year-old was a key part of the midfield alongside Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie for Gregg Berhalter’s men.

And it seems that his displays in Qatar have not gone unnoticed. In fact, Fabrizio Romano told CBS Sports that Arsenal had sent scouts to watch Musah.
Gomez backs Musah for Arsenal
Of course, Musah spent much of his youth career at the Emirates. He departed for Valencia after seven years on the books in North London. And it seems that Arsenal are now seriously considering bringing him back in a future window.

Gomez – who represented the US at the World Cup in 2010 – was asked whether he felt that Musah was ready for such a move.
The retired striker noted that he is only in his first season playing as a central midfielder with Los Che. And with that, he initially expressed some concern about his ability to step up.
However, he went on to suggest that he cannot see Musah being able to reject Mikel Arteta’s men if they make a move.
“I don’t know if he can say no to Arsenal. I don’t think he can say no to Arsenal,” he told ESPN. “There’s a personal story there, he started there. There might be that part of him that thinks: ‘you know what, this would be great for me. This is where I want to be. This is home’. There could be that.
“He’s got such a high ceiling. He’s such a good player. There’s a few pieces that are missing that he can get. I didn’t think that he had the physical aspect of it. And what he showed me in this World Cup is that he absolutely has it. There are things that he keeps surprising us with. I still think he needs more end product. But he’s just so good.”
Musah will not come cheap. His contract at the Mestalla includes a £86 million release clause. And after such a good showing at the World Cup, you would imagine that Valencia would now want a sum much closer to that figure.
Arsenal will be wary of getting carried away with his displays in Qatar. However, he has taken a step forward this season. And, given his history, the Gunners probably did keep him on their radar ever since his exit anyway.
He is not the finished article. But Gomez clearly thinks that he may have unfinished business if Arsenal do make a move.
