Tony Cascarino thinks Arsenal should sign £80k-a-week ace 'very similar' to Romelu Lukaku

Arsenal would benefit from signing Tammy Abraham, according to talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Chelsea striker this week.

According to The Sun, Arsenal are frontrunners to land Abraham ahead of Spurs and West Ham.

This would reportedly be on a loan-to-buy basis, and the Blues apparently value the 23-year-old at £40million.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino feels Abraham would be “pivotal” for Arsenal, and compared the striker to Romelu Lukaku.

“Lukaku was a very similar player, where he had to improve in several aspects of his game,” he said (21/7/21, 9:30am).

“I think Tammy is capable of doing something very similar. He’s 23, there is room for improvement.

“He’d be a very fortunate man to go to a club the stature of Arsenal.

“I think they’re on the right path to start to catch up to the teams that have gone beyond them and Tammy would give them something different.

“With his goal return, I think he’d be pivotal to them.”

Arsenal eyeing “unbelievable” striker?

Abraham has enjoyed a successful career so far after coming through the ranks at Stamford Bridge.

He took in three loan stints, two of which were especially fruitful.

Abraham scored 23 Championship goals at Bristol City in 2016-17, helping them survive in the second tier, plus three more in the League Cup.

The following season, he played for then Premier League outfit Swansea, where he scored eight goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

In 2018-19, Abraham linked up with Aston Villa and, like at Bristol City, was sensational, scoring 26 Championship goals en route to promotion.

Since then, the £80,000-a-week forward has become a regular at Chelsea, making 79 first-team appearances over the past two seasons.

Abraham claimed 18 goals and six assists in 2019-20, and 12 goals and six assists last season.

Jack Grealish has previously described his former claret-and-blue teammate as “unbelievable” and said he “loved playing with him”.
