Pundit says Arsenal have a player whose ‘legs are two steps ahead of his brain’ after seeing him v Wolves

Arsenal might have won their opening game of the season with ease but there are still some areas for improvement it seems.

The Gunners effectively cruised to a win over Wolves and probably could have had more goals with some more composure.

The strike force of Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli did deliver in the main. Indeed, Saka and Havertz both scored, and assisted as well.

However, it was a trickier day at the office for Martinelli.

The pacey forward got into good positions but often made the wrong decision, something which Declan Rice gave him an earful for just before half-time.

And according to ESPN pundit Janusz Michallik, Martinelli has got to start refining his game.

Gabriel Martinelli told to slow down parts of his game

Speaking on ESPN FC about the impact Martinelli can have, Michallik has said that the Brazilian seems to be struggling to get his mind and body in sync.

“When I think of Martinelli, his legs are two steps ahead of his brain. He’s still unrefined,” Michallik said.

“There’s something special in him, but that hasn’t come out just yet. Everything happens too quickly, and there is that moment when you are, you know, at times it’s great and there are times you are like, what do I do now?

“So still finishing that, but he’s so young, you know, that final touch, if you will.”

Martinelli knows the pressure is on

After struggling a bit last season, Martinelli knows that he needs to perform this year to keep his place in the starting XI.

Ian Wright mentioned how Martinelli looked desperate at times and you have to agree with the former MOTD pundit on that one.

For Martinelli, this is a big season where it feels like he needs to show he can deliver 15-20 goals.

There is always so much talk of Arsenal bringing in a new forward and with reports of Gabriel Jesus impressing in pre-season, he’s got competition.

Martinelli, then, simply has to start getting things right in big moments.
