Josh King is the latest in a long line of youngsters to be given their first-team opportunity in the Premier League at Fulham.

The 18-year-old made his senior bow under Marco Silva last season in a 2-1 win against Shrewsbury Town in the Carabao Cup, and he assisted both goals.

In recent years, the Cottagers have seen talents such as Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho poached by Liverpool, among others who have sought to continue their careers away from West London.

While both have since left Anfield, with Elliott completing a move to Aston Villa on deadline day this summer, the trend of their most talented prospects being poached appears to have stopped.

King’s resurgence into the first-team fold at Craven Cottage acts as a clear indicator to the academy of the opportunities on offer at the club, and now the youngster has his eyes set on achieving the greatest prize with England.

Josh King wants to win the World Cup

When speaking to Sky Sports, King revealed the aspirations he has set for himself in his career and is dreaming of achieving success with his country.

“I think the World Cup is a big one. I think that would be a really, really cool thing to win. Obviously, I’ve got lots of aspirations. When I was eight years old, I used to say I wanted to be the best midfielder ever — but that’s a difficult feat. Still, I’ve always had high ceilings and high aspirations. The world’s my oyster, so we’ll see what happens.”

King saw his debut goal ruled out after VAR intervention during the 2-0 loss against Chelsea, a decision that the PGMOL has since admitted was an error.

His effort was included in the club’s goal of the month competition, which sparked fury among the Chelsea fans, and the disallowed goal did indeed win the award.

The midfielder has started all seven Premier League matches for Fulham thus far and has been called up to represent England Under-21s in the European Championship qualifiers.

King’s rise through the ranks in West London is not an uncommon occurrence; of course, the Cottagers have a long history of promoting from within.

And as the midfielder continues to catch the eye in the Premier League, TBR Football understands Kayden Sessegnon will commit to Fulham and continue his family tradition of representing the club despite emerging interest from Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Josh King has an outside chance of making the World Cup

Although the youngster has yet to register a full Premier League season under his belt, he has a chance of making the 2026 World Cup squad if he continues to start matches at Craven Cottage.

Thomas Tuchel is showing no signs of bias in his team selections, with the likes of Jarell Quansah and Elliott Anderson named in the latest squad. The manager will make his decisions based on performance.

Therefore, if King moves up the gears in West London and establishes himself as a must-starter under Silva, then he could very well be on the plane to North America this summer.

In the meantime, King must focus on adding goals and assists to his game in the Premier League to ensure that he leaves Tuchel with no choice but to make a decision which could shock England.
