‘Doesn’t make any sense’, ‘Nervous’: Some Celtic fans react to the club’s ‘massive gamble’

Some Celtic fans were reacting after Ange Postecoglou became the club’s new manager.

In a post on their website, the Bhoys confirmed that the Australian has joined the club on a 12-month rolling contract.

His appointment was under threat after it emerged that the 55-year-old didn’t have a UEFA Pro license. However, the club confirmed he received UEFA recognition and endorsement in relation to his pro-Licence issued by Football Australia.

Costecoglou has very rarely managed outside his native country, and was most recently in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos. He was successful as the manager of Australia, winning the 2015 Asian Cup.

Speaking on the club’s website, Postecoglou claimed that receiving the job is one of the biggest honours in football.

TBR View: Postecoglou appointment a huge risk for Celtic

Recent history has shown that risky appointments could well end in an ugly manner.

Celtic and even Glasgow rivals Rangers have suffered from similar fates in recent seasons.

The Gers appointed Pedro Caixinha, who lasted just 229 days in charge at Ibrox Stadium. His stint in charge oversaw a 5-1 defeat to their city rivals.

Meanwhile, Celtic picked Ronny Deila, who failed to qualify for the Champions League during his time with the club.

Appointing Postecoglou as the new Celtic manager comes with many red flags. The news could well set the outfit back as Rangers look to make strides under Steven Gerrard
