The conversations with the former Bournemouth manager were said to have broken down over various factors, including wages and backroom staff.

TBR View: Postecoglou would be an underwhelming appointment

Postecoglou’s appointment sounds like the club are willing to take a chance. The Australian has never managed outside his native country, making his appointment incredibly risky.

Recent history is littered with how risky managers never work out. Rangers and Celtic have both faced this fate over the last few seasons.

Ronny Deila was appointed as the successor to Neil Lennon his stepped down following his first spell. However, last just two season, failing to help the side qualify for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Gers appointed Pedro Caixinha, who was sacked just months after his appointment.

Inexperienced managers can rarely make the desired impact they’re hired to have.

Steven Gerrard has made Rangers an ultra competitive side, putting incredibe pressure on any new incoming Celtic manager.

Postacoglou’s appointment comes with a great air of risk about it. His success in Australia should not be discounted, but, with the Blue half of Glasgow performing so well, there’s no time to take chances.
