'Possible': Liverpool have chance of signing £12m attacker in January, he's ready to leave - journalist
Okafor enjoyed a real breakthrough season last year as he registered nine goals and the same number of assists in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The Switzerland international has already bagged seven goals during the current campaign and he has seemingly caught the attention of a host of elite clubs.
The 22-year-old is receiving interest from the likes of AC Milan and Manchester City, as well as Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Plettenberg reported earlier today that Liverpool are interested in Okafor and that it is possible the player could leave in the upcoming transfer window. Now, the journalist has provided a further update on a possible January move on Twitter.
Liverpool have chance of signing Okafor
Plettenberg claims that Okafor is open to leaving Leipzig and the club are on the same page as the player.
Plettenberg has also said that it would cost £30.7-£35 million to land the forward, after Salzburg paid just £12 million for him.
Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund has also already admitted that Okafor could leave in January, as long as the price is right.
“Okafor really took off last year,” he said.
“I hope he plays a good World Cup, then the stock of Noah Okafor can become very interesting. I don’t rule (a January exit) out!“
Okafor has impressed in the Champions League this season and bagged three goals to help Salzburg reach the last-16. One of those goals came at Stamford Bridge and he has shown he can play at the very top level.
But with obvious weaknesses in midfield, Liverpool may be better off focusing on targets for this position.
The club have already brought in Darwin Nunez to replace Sadio Mane over the summer and Klopp has struggled in terms of his options in midfield this season.
