Player whose Arsenal contract was cancelled by Arteta reacts to news about Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka has clinched the Arsenal Player of the Year award and drawn plenty of praise after another impressive season.
Saka has propped Arsenal onto his back at times this season, although he was unable to guide the club into the Champions League.
Saka is currently away on international duty with England, and he started on the right wing in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Germany.
He posted on Instagram to celebrate the award and among those congratulating him on the award was former Arsenal defender Sokratis.
Defender Sokratis had his contract cancelled during Mikel Arteta’s reign in January 2021, but clearly keeps an eye out for his former teammates.
You would expect Saka’s current peers to wish him well but the Greek international was keen to praise the wideman for his achievement.
Saka’s award comes amid chatter this week over his Arsenal future.
He is entering the final year of his deal but Arsenal have already told him that they will trigger the one-year extension clause they have.
That eases some of the panic, but the latest accolade underlines once again his importance to the club ahead of next season.
European champions Real Madrid are among the clubs tracking Saka, with contract talks planned for the summer and Arsenal really need those discussions to go well.
