Tottenham Hotspur fans will hope that the latest international break will not bring about any fresh injury issues ahead of this weekend’s return to action.

Spurs have once again gone into an international break on the back of a disappointing result, so they’ll be desperate to get back to winning ways and turn a corner.

Over the past few days, one Tottenham player has been in scintillating form for his nation, earning plenty of plaudits from his compatriots.

Now, one of the Spurs star’s opponents in the latest round of Nations League games has wished him well after a challenge that left him rolling around in pain.

Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski shines for Sweden

The player in question is Dejan Kulusevski, who dazzled for Sweden against both Slovakia and Estonia this month.

For instance, Swedish newspaper Fotbollskanalen gave the Spurs man a 4 out of 5 rating against Slovakia, saying he was “definitely the best player on the pitch”.

The same outlet gave Kulusevski a 3 out of 5 score, saying he was “very involved” and delivered a “great performance”.

A different Fotbollskanalen article noted how Estonia’s Karol Mets made a rash challenge on Kulusevski, who was left rolling about in pain.

Estonia’s Karol Mets hopes Kulusevski is fine after foul

Mets, who was only shown a yellow card, seemed apologetic after the game, which saw Sweden run out 3-0 winners.

He said, as relayed by the Swedish outlet: “It was just a normal duel. I slipped a bit and stepped on his ankle. I hope he is fine and that it was nothing serious.”

Mets was relieved it was only a yellow card, saying: “Yes, definitely. On a worse day it could even have been something else (red card). So it was fair.”

How is Kulusevski after Mets’ challenge?

There haven’t been any reports suggesting Kulusevski has suffered an injury, and the Spurs man also seemed to accept Mets’ apology.

“There was nothing bad that he wanted to do,” said Kulusevski. “I could play on.”

What next for Kulusevski, Sweden and Tottenham?

Sweden have played both of their international games this month, so their players will be able to reconvene with their clubs.

Tottenham are next in action on Saturday 19 October as they host West Ham United in a Premier League game scheduled for a 12:30pm kick-off.

There’s one more international break this year, with Sweden taking on Slovakia on 16 November before hosting Azerbaijan on 19 November.
