Guglielmo Vicario had a national team debut to forget as the Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper made a big mistake to lose his clean sheet.
Italy cruised to a 4-1 win in the Nations League as Luciano Spalletti’s team dominated the visitors, however, the win should have been to nil had the Spurs star done his job properly.
Vicario has been criticised for his inability to command his area at set-pieces and against Israel that weakness was certainly on show.
The 28-year-old was making his competitive debut for the Azzurri as he replaced long-term number-one Gianluigi Donnarumma between the sticks.
Inter Milan have shown an interest in signing Vicario, however, they will have been put off by the goalkeeper making yet another mistake from a corner.

Italian media slam Vicario’s performance vs Israel
The Italian media have been less than kind about Vicario’s Italy debut against Israel with the focus of their reviews being around his mistake for the goal.
The Italian goalkeeper was unable to stop Abu Fani’s corner from ending up in the back of the net as Israel’s Matan Baltaxa did a successful job of blocking Vicario.
Eurosport gave the Tottenham keeper a 5.5/10 for his performance and wrote: “Until the 66th minute he is only called to play the ball on the ground, but then the half ‘omelette’ with a red pencil on the corner taken by Abu Fani.
“Sure, Baltaxa prevents him from intervening with a sort of obstruction in the small area, but from a goalkeeper like him you expect more.”
Sky Italia gave him a six, claiming: “If there wasn’t a clear foul against him, we could talk about a clumsy exit on the corner that ends up in. But the obstruction foul, which doesn’t allow him to intervene on the ball, is there. And quite clear.
“Of course, with his hands, Vicario never manages to intervene. Because there are no other shots on goal. A couple graze the post. With Vicario praying and blowing a sigh of relief.”
Frank Leboeuf can’t believe Vicario’s mistake
Frank Leboeuf was amazed at how Vicario allowed himself to get bullied at the corner in which the visitors scored their goal.
The former French defender believes he needed to do much more to stop Baltaxa from marking him as the Israeli defender’s slight nudge saw him end up on the floor in his own net.
Leboeuf told ESPN UK: “Yeah, we have to go back to Vicario. I mean, it wasn’t even like two or three players surrounding him and making it impossible for him. Only one guy was marking him, but he stayed behind him and ended up in his own net. It was crazy to see.
“Push the guy, I don’t know, go over him, go in front of him, do something with your hands. Push him. Exist. He doesn’t exist. That’s crazy. I have never seen that in my life. That’s an enigma for me, the way the guy is incapable of reacting one against one.”
Tottenham need to address this area of concern in their number one’s game as even national teams are picking up on this weakness and exploiting it with ease.
There have been suggestions Spurs need to replace Vicario and he certainly isn’t doing himself any favours being so weak at claiming set pieces.
