PL side now ready to offer 23-year-old a new deal with huge pay-rise amid Tottenham interest

Crystal Palace hope to offer Marc Guehi a new contract with a significant pay-rise in an attempt to stave off interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and others.

That is according to a report from 90min, which notes that Manchester United and Newcastle United are also monitoring the England international.

Marc Guehi has established himself as one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League while at Selhurst Park. He has certainly proved to be a bargain at £18 million.

And it seems that he is ready to hand Palace a big boost ahead of the January transfer window. 90min reports that Guehi does not want to leave Roy Hodgson’s side in the winter as he does not want to jeopardise his spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.

That will be a blow for Tottenham, with 90min reporting that Ange Postecoglou’s men are one of the teams monitoring the 23-year-old. Bayern Munich have also expressed an interest.

Palace hope that they can convince Guehi to stay even longer than the rest of the season. 90min adds that a new contract with a hefty pay-rise is in the pipeline.

Spurs must now look elsewhere

In truth, a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January already looked highly unlikely. TEAMtalk previously reported that Palace want as much as £75 million for Guehi next summer. So that price is likely to be even higher in the winter when you consider how difficult it would be to replace him in January.

But Tottenham definitely need to sign another centre-back in January. The injury to Micky van de Ven has cost Spurs over the last three games. And it is set to be some time before he is back.

They are not going to break the bank to sign Guehi. So news that he is going nowhere in January and in line for a new contract may well end Tottenham’s realistic hopes of a deal anytime soon.
