Phil Thompson believes David Moyes has to leave West Ham United at the end of the season.
Despite leading West Ham to seventh in the Premier League table and a Europa League quarter-final this term, it’s fair to say that David Moyes’ future remains uncertain.
The Scotsman has come under pressure at the London Stadium following a difficult start to 2024 and groans from the West Ham faithful over his pragmatic approach.

It’s led to sections of the Hammers’ home supporters even calling for Moyes’ departure, which Jamie Carragher has labelled ‘bang out of order’.
The east Londoners have been backed to look at hiring Wolves boss Gary O’Neil should Moyes head out the door.
And with his contract set to expire this summer, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes it’s the right time to move on.
Thompson urges Moyes to leave West Ham
Speaking on talkSPORT, Thompson explained why he believes Moyes should call time on his spell at West Ham this summer.
“If I was David Moyes, I would leave at the end of the season,” he said. “I would leave because David’s stock is high amongst other clubs, he could get into a lot of football clubs and with West Ham, I just feel like the fans… he’s only two defeats away from them wanting him out again. I would go like that and say, I’ve done my job, I can walk now…”
“They pay the money, they have the right to say what they want,” Thompson added. “I was just talking about how David Moyes, this is about him not about the fans or whether they criticise or whatever. I think David should just say that’s enough, I’m off.”

West Ham have enjoyed a slight upturn in form of late having picked up two wins and as many draws from their last four league games.
Moyes also led the Hammers to a 5-1 win over SC Freiburg to book their place in the Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen.
But you can see why Thompson believes it may be the right time for Moyes to leave this summer.
A large section of West Ham fans want to see the club move in a different direction and despite Moyes’ success in east London, his style of play isn’t exactly being received well at the moment.
