Manchester United have a proud history of bringing through some of the best young prospects in the country.

Indeed, from the Class of 92 to Kobbie Mainoo, United have always had some very exciting young talents coming through their ranks.

Last season, Scott McTominay named four exciting United youngsters to keep an eye on, and, now, just 12 months on, there’s already a new crop making names for themselves.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Phil Jones has been discussing some of United’s up-and-coming young stars, and he’s named Chido Obi is a player to watch out for.

The teenage striker joined United from Arsenal in the summer, and Obi is already being tipped for big things.

Chido Obi will have a great career

Jones shared his verdict on Obi and his potential.

Jones has been working in Manchester United’s academy recently, and he says that Obi looks to be a top young prospect who will go on to have a great career.

“Well, I think you look at Kobbie Mainoo, top player. You look at the likes of Chido, who we’ve just signed from Arsenal, who’s an animal. He’s going to be…

“How old is he?” The host interrupted

“He’s just, I think he’s just turned 17 or 18 years. Listen, he’s going to have a great career, albeit, like Sam said, you have the right mentality, but I think he does,” Jones said.

Players who’ve left Arsenal’s academy and thrived

Obi may become a star for Manchester United, and that will, ultimately, be painful for Arsenal.

Indeed, Arsenal let Obi go in the summer, and now, he looks to be on the path to brilliance at Old Trafford.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Arsenal have sold or let a young player go only for it to come back to bite them.

Serge Gnabry has become a superstar and a Champions League winner since leaving Arsenal at a young age.

Eberechi Eze was gutted to leave Arsenal, now he’s one of the most exciting players in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Antoine Semenyo was on trial with Arsenal at one point, but the Gunners didn’t sign him, and now, he’s starring with Bournemouth.

Harry Kane, famously, was on Arsenal’s books as a kid, but he was released at a young age too.

Donyell Malen is back in the Premier League now after being sold by Arsenal as a youngster, while Ismael Bennacer won a Serie A title with AC Milan before joining Marseille on loan in January.

Arsenal have dropped the ball with a number of young talents over the years, and it looks as though Obi may be another mistake from the Gunners.
