Percassi sends Tottenham warning over Cristian Romero

Atalanta CEO Antonio Percassi has sent Tottenham Hotspur a warning over their chase of Cristian Romero.

Spurs are reportedly looking to sign the central defender from the Italian outfit.

Recent reports are claiming that the Lilywhites were in advanced talks for the Argentine. It was reported a deal to bring the £52m-rated South American to north London was close to an agreement.

However, the CEO’s comments seem to suggest otherwise.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are also in for the ace’s teammate Pierluigi Gollini. Fabrizio Romano has reported a deal is done for the goalkeeper.

When talking about Romero, Percassi warned Tottenham, as per Romano: “Romero? Tottenham interest is normal… but he’ll stay if we don’t receive the right bid, as he’s one of the best centre backs.”

Tottenham need to secure Romero amid Percassi warning

It seems the club won’t be able to lowball their way to a transfer for the centre-half. And looking at his performances last season, it proves understandable.

Romero was head and shoulders above his Atalanta teammates last season. The 23-year-old made the most interceptions, aerial duels and second-most tackles and clearances per game for the Serie A outfit.

And at such a tender age, he proves a valuable asset to the Champions League side.

Whatever the asking price, you feel the club would be crazy not to pay it. Tottenham need to secure a deal for Romero amid the warning from Percassi.
